Dinacharya (Ayurvedic Daily Routine) to remain healthy and disease free: Wake Up Time

Dinacharya, Sanskrit for daily routine, are best practices recommended for a person to maintain good health and remain disease free.

What is the ideal time to wake up?

According to Ayurveda, a healthy person should wake up during Brahma Muhurta (Sanskrit for the last portion of the night) to maintain optimum health and longevity.

Note: Ayurveda does not recommend following the daily routine practices for anyone who is unwell.

What is Brahma Muhurta?

A muhurta is a measurement of time, and in Ayurveda one muhurta is 48 minutes long. The time you wake up will depend on the time sun rises where you live! So if sunrise for you is at 6am, then it is recommended for you to wake up at 5:12am (48 minutes before sunrise).

Note: Please avoid cold milk with cereal, especially for children.

Why does Ayurveda recommend waking up during Brahma Muhurta?

Ayurveda believes that the energy of the sun starts percolating into the environment 48 minutes before sunrise. And since our body mimics our environment, to align with the circadian rhythm and maintain balance with all the elements (Vata, Pitta, Kapha), we must wake up 48 minutes before sunrise.
