AUM: Most Powerful Meditation Chant

Meditation: a practice known to promote calmness and relaxation in our mind and body. I struggled to meditate for a long time as I thought meditation meant to quiet the thoughts in my mind and keep a blank slate- an impossible task. Upon attending a few meditation courses at Isha foundation and Art of Living, I learned that meditation means to acknowledge your thoughts and let them flow through you.

Being present with your breath is of the utmost importance, letting your thoughts come and go thus practicing non-attachment, and the easiest way for me to meditate is to simply chant AUM.

What is the significance of AUM?

Just as music is universal, so is the power of sound. Composed of three root sounds ‘Aa’ ‘Oo’ and ‘Mm’, AUM is considered to be the Universal sound of existence and consciousness. AUM is void of any religious association, it is purely a vibration.

Scientifically speaking, chanting AUM helps regulate the parasympathetic nervous system believed to promote calmness and relaxation. You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that chanting AUM stimulates the Vagus nerve which helps release anti-aging neurotransmitters.

If you are new to meditation, start with a 5-minute AUM chant and slowly build up to as long a you like. Enjoy a truly transformational mind-body experience!
